Bio
Devin Kakuda is an aspiring product designer based out of Detroit Michigan. Currently attending College for Creative Studies, Devin is honing his sketch, 3D modeling/printing, rendering, and animating abilities. Devin broke typical boundaries in his department by focusing on the aftermarket car industry. His love for cars made him pursue a senior thesis passion project, building a 1991 Foxbody LX with a custom bodykit and active aero. Devin presented this project at the winter 2023 CCS industry day and received an internship at Maker’s Garage from it.
Designers Statement
As an automotive product designer, my work is sculpting clay onto a canvas—a delicate process of adding and subtracting until the form emerges. In this journey, I've embarked on a mission to explore the intersection of two divergent automotive cultures: American muscle and European track/rally aesthetics.
My canvas is a 1991 Foxbody, an icon of American muscle history. Yet, my vision transcends its origins, seeking to imbue it with the spirit of European performance and agility. In this fusion of styles lies my artistic journey, clinging between the clean lines of tradition and the allure of innovation. I sculpt the body, consider the aerodynamics, and refine the mechanics, all to create a cohesive and compelling narrative. Through this project, I invite viewers to reconsider preconceived notions of automotive design. This Foxbody is more than a car—it's a testament to my creativity of automotive design.
